Rangeland Fall Forum 2020

October 1, 2020 - October 2, 2020

Review – Reimagine – Reposition is the theme of the VIRTUAL 2020 Rangeland Fall Forum. The Rangeland Center will collaborate with the McClure Center for Public Policy Research and Society for Range Management (SRM) Idaho Chapter to foster reflection, discussion, and innovation. This event will bring together researchers, land managers, and producers to consider how to conserve and restore rangelands. Register online at our webpage, and join us from the comfort of your own computer on October 1st and 2nd:

Session 1 – Review, Thursday, Oct. 1, 12:30-2:00pm MST

  • Wendy Pratt (rancher and Rangeland Center Advisory Council) and her son, Seth Pratt, will reflect on changes in ranching across generations.
  • Tim Prather will interview Dr. Glenn Shewmaker (University of Idaho) about changes they have seen in rangeland plant communities.

Session 2 – Reimagine, Thursday, Oct. 1, 5:00-6:30pm MST

  • Mark Brunson (Utah State University) will give a keynote address on making change in a dynamic world.
  • An interactive session will engage participants in sharing ideas and approaches.
  • Idaho SRM will update us on their work across Idaho.

Session 3 – Reposition, Friday, Oct. 2, 12:30-2:00pm MST

  • Dr. April Hulet (University of Idaho) will be hosted by Mike Kuyper (US Bureau of Land Management Idaho SRM) to consider opportunities to restore and improve rangelands.
  • Dr. Jim Sprinkle (University of Idaho) will be hosted by Brooke Swanke (Idaho State Department of Agriculture) to discuss opportunities for livestock producers to reposition to meet pending challenges.
  • Gretchen Hyde (Idaho Rangeland Resources Commission) will give a capstone address to capture themes from the Fall Forum and propose ideas for repositioning ranching to meet new challenges.
